From white to green

Curious on howmany Fiat 124 Familiare still are on Dutch roads, I posted a question within the Facebook group 'Fiat Register Nederland'. Both Dutch Fiat 124 Familiare A simple question; "how many Fiat 124 Familiare are there, besides these two I found on the internet"? resulted in shocking numbers...  TWO!  There are only TWO in The Netherlands..  ..  that makes this car more rare then most Ferrari'. Learned a lot within that post. Both Dutch 124 Familiare are originally delivered in The Netherlands, both are green..   one seems to be in mint state, the other is currently in restoration. Then Martin arrived in the group, writing "I have one  -  it's for sale!"..    and that is where project E sapu started....   the next day the deal was done.

E sapu

There he is...  after a long time waiting. the arrival of the Fiat 124 Familia in October 2024 Project "e sapu" arrived at his new home - my home. This beauty makes time-travelling possible! When you place yourself behind the steering wheel, it's 1969 all over again. Why "e sapu" you ask? Long story...   but translated from the caribbean language "Papiamentu" it spells    "the frog"    ;-) Restauration-blog Are you interrested in the restauration of this Fiat 124 Familiaire? Then stay tuned. This website is the place to see all details regarding the restaration and repairs on the Fiat 124.

How it started

I'm probably not the only one... that keeps a list of cars "I would like to own" one day. Nothing strange for car-guys right? Of course the obvious suspects like BMW 2002, Ford Escort Mk. 1, and Alpine A110 ...  I have a somewhat quirky taste.   On that quirky list is the Rover 220 turbo coupe, classic Mini Clubman/van and... an good old boxy Lada. The Lada story started with an 1200 in maroon red (21012 to be precise). A relative young example - from first owner build in 1988. Still love that car. both the 2101 Lada & Fiat 124 Familiare And since we like to use our cars for long holidays -  the best upgrade would be an Estate - right? The hunt for an Lada 2102, was a journey of years... Good ones are rare to find. Bad ones also. Most of them are in eastern Europe.... always advertised with 49.000 km's on the speedo (for a 50 year old car   ;-)...  and the paint still wet.  For real money.. And since I'm not 100% stuck on it to be Russia...
